History:

African Violet Association of Hong Kong was established in 1981. Initially AVAHK was organized by some Orchid Organization members. The cultivation of orchid needs large space. Since the land in Hong Kong is quite rare, it was the aim to solve this problem by establishing a new group to search for a new target --- eventually AFRICAN VIOLET was chosen.

After preparation committee being formed in 1980, registration as Non-profit Making Organization under the Hong Kong Ordinance was made in 1981. In the 1st public exhibition held in Hotel Furama, it was supposed to be the 1st African Violet Open Exhibition in Hong Kong history. Currently we organize Shows in Hong Kong every year.

Most of our members are amateur and renowned African Violet growers. During regular bi-monthly meetings, AVAHK experienced growers share their secrets with members for how to grow beautiful and healthy African Violet. There are advisors analyzing the appropriate soil for Hong Kong weather and other related affairs. Newsletters are regularly distributed to members before meetings. Welcome to join us!
